EXPERIMENT 3: observing the effect of a catalyst on a chemical reaction
EXPERIMENT 3: observing the effect of a catalyst on a chemical reaction
AIM: to observe the effects of a copper catalyst on the reaction between zinc and sulfuric acid
Experiment: three test tubes, test tube rack,10ml measuring cylinder, dropping pipette, granulated zinc, copper turnings or power, diluted sulfuric acid.
METHOD:
- add roughtly the same mass of zinc to test tube 1 and 3
- add rouhtly the same mass of copper to test tube 2 and 3
- add 5ml of dilited sulfuric acid to 1. not the rate of production of gas bubbles.
- add 5ml of acid to test tube 2 note the rate of production of gas bubbles
- ass 5 ml of acid to test tube 3. note the the rate of the production.
TEST TUBE ONE: immediatly started bubling at contact with the hydrochloric acid
TEST TUBE TWO: fizzed at the contact to the hydrochloric acid
TEST TUBE THREE: bubbling and fizzing at the contact with the hydrochloric acid
